Gerry Conway misses the irony

Left wing (surprise!) comics guy Gerry Conway has learned the hard way what it means to be a modern "progressive." It doesn't matter what you've said/done over the course of many years; just be perceived to have wandered off the "orthodoxy plantation" one time ... and you'll be destroyed:

Conway is talking about a panel discussion he attended alongside some other creators, notably Todd MacFarlane.

But really, Gerry? You're surprised this happened? It doesn't matter what your life's philosophy has been. It doesn't matter what you support and believe. You say the wrong thing -- even if it was just perceived wrongly -- and you're through when it comes to contemporary "progressives." Just ask Bill Clinton about the 2008 Democratic primary and subsequent presidential campaign. Or Geraldine Ferraro. And many, many others. Modern "progressivism" is PC-bound to several ideological stances, criticism of which is anathema. [Certain] races is one. [Certain] religions is another. And, certainly, alternate sexual lifestyles.

Live and learn, Ger. You're learning the hard way, unfortunately, when it comes to your present-day ideological brethren.

Sounds like Conway is learning how quickly the left can turn on even their own. Doesn't surprise me that the total moonbats at Think Progress would get all "offended" by his comments.

Maybe this whole experience with the perpetually offended online moonbats will give him pause and maybe reconsider some of his positions. Actually, I doubt it, but if I were him, it certainly would give me pause.

"Heck, I get regular hate-tweets from right wingers, religious bigots, GOP supporters, and misogynists."

No he doesn't. He gets hate tweets from assholes. Right wingers, religious bigots (Whatever that is), GOP supporters and misogynists don't waste their time tweeting fools.

As I noted at my blog, usually when progressives refer to "hate speech," they mean, "views and ideas I don't agree with."

Wow. Great stuff, Hube. I really hope Gerry read this. You're on the money with this one.

Yeah Carl, it's highly unlikely Conway will see any light. Someone his age it's too late to alter his politics.

Doug: Many thanks, amigo! :-)

You're right, he's too old to alter his political views. A brief perusal of his Twitter feed shows that he's already going back to GOP-bashing and calling conservatives "racist."

It's kind of sad that he feels that way about conservatives, but not surprising. He was one of the great writers of the Bronze Age of Comics, for both Marvel and DC. If memory serves, his liberal politics (assuming his views have always been liberal) never entered any of the comics he wrote.
