Common Sense Comment of the Day
Jim Geraghty, who identifies himself as Caucasian*, in his e-mailed "Morning Jolt":
But even if we look at everything that was said and presented in this trial, and like the jury, we conclude Zimmerman did not commit second-degree murder, and in fact acted in self-defense . . . that doesn't mean we have to lionize him. Being anti-racial-demagoguery doesn't necessarily mean we have to be pro-Zimmerman.
Geraghty also notes that "some jurisdictions" have "different types of self-defense" one of which is called involuntary manslaughter. Apparently this isn't part of Florida's jurisdiction, which answers my question why Zimmerman wasn't prosecuted/convicted of such.

I can't help but think that if Zimmerman was a black man and Trayvon was a white kid Zimmerman wouldn't have been let go by police the night of the shooting and he wouldn't be walking away a free man.
How do you shoot an unarmed 17 year old who committed no crime and walk away free?
When he's beating the living shit out of you, perhaps?
Maybe you ought to become familiar with the law in question and what happened at the trial? That'd be good for starters.
Oh, and Zimmerman is Hispanic. Looks like you're another who's fallen into the trap.
Yeah, the term "White Hispanic" is a myth. It didn't even exist until this story broke back in 2012. Anyone who falls for that nonsense is an idiot.
I know M and she is a terrific person. In retrospect one can see perhaps she wasn't alluding to Z specifically but was making a general statement about race. She certainly may be correct in that, if the [racial] roles were reversed, things would have turned out differently. We'll never know. One can speculate on many aspects of the case.
.. that you knew her. I apologize to her, too, for saying what I said.
That said, you're right. We don't have anything but speculation.
It's OK, amigo. I was a bit heated myself when I wrote my own comment. I had just finished reading several ridiculous FB comments from [supposed] friends about the whole matter.
I see... I quit FB at the end of May, so I no longer have to deal with supposed "friends" who suddenly become "experts" on various issues and happenings, etc.
