Spare us the sanctimony

Avi Green over at Four Color Media Monitor and Carl at Carl's Comics have reported on the new Green Lantern -- an American Muslim. As you may know, I don't follow contemporary comics much anymore due to precisely this sort of supposed "relevant" political correctness; however, I could really care less who becomes the Lantern -- especially since whoever's chosen is supposed to be pure of heart.

But that ain't really the case with this new one, Simon Baz. He's a crook. Worse than that, writer Geoff Johns (who apparently desires to excise Muslim stereotypes) latches on to a scenario which never saw the light of day: that of virulent anti-Islamic sentiment and violence following the days after 9/11/2001. In fact, anti-Jewish hate crimes continue to far surpass those of an anti-Muslim nature by a huge magnitude.

Seriously, what's absolutely hilarious is Johns' (and DC's) attempt at "educating" us, and lecturing us against stereotypes. But these sanctimonious putzes won't waste a country second doing JUST THAT when it comes to anything conservative and/or Republican. (See here, just for starters.) "Creators" like these are precisely like the dolts seen in this video -- they're supposedly so "tolerant," "open" and "progressive" ... right up until the moment they're faced with someone who disagrees with them.

When he worked for Marvel about ten years ago, Johns wrote the Avengers storyline "Red Zone" where the Red Skull had disguised himself as the Defense Secretary, Dell Rusk aka stand-in for Donald Rumsfield. I'd forgotten about that, but I remember it now that Avi mentioned it in his post on the subject.
