Racers of the week part II

Tagging on to Hube's post below Chris Matthews has now decided that "Chicago" is a racist term.

It goes something like this: Republicans refer to Obama's cheap shots (i.e. accusing him of killing cancer patients and not paying his taxes) as "Chicago style politics". That is, cheap, nasty and corrupt just like Chicago. Chris Matthews who is, in my opinion, a bigot of the first order, interprets that to mean "black". Why? There are a lot of black people in Chicago. That Chris Matthews continually hears dog whistles of racism in words like "welfare" and now "Chicago" says much more about his preoccupation with race than anything else. To me, when I think Chicago style politics the first person I think of is Rahm Emmanuel who is widely known to have a horrible temper and a foul mouth. He is also the prototypical win at all costs and burn the house down bareknuckle brawler. There is no level he will not stoop to in order to win. Some might admire his zeal but to me he epitomizes everything wrong with politics.

Chris Matthews is a former Democrat operative and is well connected to the Democrat machine. This desperate attempt to smear Romney/Ryan with the brush of racism, misogyny and hatred of poor people etc. tells me that my instinct is correct. The Democrat internal polls much be pretty grim and they're looking at a loss, perhaps a big one in November.

Have you seen Obama/Biden running on anything other than aspersions and mudslinging? Has there been one mention of Obama's record or his accomplishments in office? No. It's fear mongering about what Romney might do when elected or how horrible he is because of of this or that. Keep an eye on the tenor of the campaign. The more histrionic it gets tells you how bad their campaign is going.

Update: The insanity continues. According to the State department phrases like "Rule of Thumb" and "Hold down the fort" are to avoided. They both have horrible historic legacies. So you may think holding down the fort means simply to keep an eye on things while I'm gone. No! I means to beware of savage, marauding Indians. Never mind that no one has had that thought in mind in say the last 150 years or more.

The one that is patently absurd is the "Black and Tan" phrase. Seriously. I'm one of those annoying Americans of Irish descent who has read a bit about Irish history and yes, I know who the Black and Tans were and the evils the visited upon Republicans and even innocents during the Irish war for independence. I have been to NORAID bars and other Republican strongholds in NYC where they flew the IRA banner openly and sang the most ardently anti-union, anti-British, anti-crown songs you've ever heard and you know what, you order a Black and Tan at that bar and they don't kneecap you. Or give you a blanket beating or even toss you out. They pour you a drink. If that group, the most hypersensitive Irish Republican group on the planet isn't bothered I think we can let this one go.

Update 2!: Now if you talk about Tiger Woods, that's racist! Or something. Stay with me here. Mitch McConnell took a swipe at Obama's numerous rounds of golf. Intimating that he's been skipping out on his responsibilities and playing so much golf that he's trying to become a top ranked golfer. In this case, Tiger Woods. To Lawrence O'Donnell this means Obama is a serial womanizer and banging every chick he could get his hands on. Um, Larry? While we do remember the scandal with Tiger Woods and his divorce and so on, I gotta tell you, that's not the first thing I think of when it comes to Tiger. It's not even the second, third or fourth. I pretty much think of him as one of the greatest golfers ever. Once again, this says much more about you than I could. Please join Chris Matthews on the couch for some group therapy.

Update 3!: Matthews shoots self in foot yet again:

But I go back to living in DC all these years. I've lived there 40 years, a black-majority city, and anybody who wants to get up early in Washington and drive down North Capitol (Street) and drive past Florida Avenue, sees nothing but youn-, but black people up at 6:30 in the morning going to work. That's where they're going, to work, and not at big-wage jobs and not to get a welfare check, they're out working hard all day and not coming home with a fantastic paycheck. So this notion of blacks live on welfare and whites live on work is a brilliant political ploy but it's not true, Rachel (Maddow). And you know it, I know it.

Precisely. I know it too. So do the vast majority of the voters in this country. We know that being on welfare does not equal black or even minority. Only small minded bigots think along those lines. The objection here is not to someone who cannot work. It is to someone who will not work. Who would rather not take an entry level job because it is beneath them. Your grandfather had a word for that job. The word was opportunity.

Re: your first update: This is the kind of shit that happens when you hire a "chief diversity officer." This is the exact type of brainless bureaucrat who has to go LOOKING for something to do. And as a result we get this. Un-F'ing-real. Who the f*** thinks of Native Americans when someone says "hold down the fort"???

God help us.

Just a little observation for you -- if you hear racist dog whistles when you listen to Republicans, doesn't that make you a racist dog?
