"Star Trek 2" info

This refers to the rebooted version of "Trek," seen last year. Screen Rant notes:

Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman, and Robert Orci are currently hard at work on the screenplay for Star Trek 2 and have only dropped a few hints about the plot and/or villain that will appear in the sequel.

Now an informant who claims to have an inside scoop on the Star Trek followup is saying that the baddie of the pic is definitely not Khan Noonien Singh and that the film will revolve around a classic Star Trek character from the original series.

Its definitely a character that will make fans of TOS excited. Think along the lines of Harry Mudd or Trelane or Gary Mitchell or the Talosians or the Horta. Actually its one of those that I named.

Unfortunately, none of those really appeal to me. On the other hand, if we were talking about the Doomsday Machine (below) ... !

My money is on Trelane, unfortunately. Not enough people would know who Gary Mitchell was; the Talosians are pretty much a one-trick pony limited to a single planet; and Harry Mudd (unless appearing as a major candidate) is way too light-hearted for what they are trying to do with this series. This leaves Trelane, who can be made much more dark and grim and be rewritten.

I'm with you on the doomsday machine.

I was hoping they'd have Gary Mitchell in the first reboot. But then it'd be obvious what the sequel's storyline would be.

William Windom is an excellent chess player. A friend who follows chess told me that at tournaments people would ask him if he was the guy who said "don't you think I know that?"

Given those choices though, I'd have to go with Gary Mitchell.
