The world we live in

It's bad enough that The Messiah's administration had, and has, badmouthed many of the previous administration's policies -- and then gone ahead and continued/justified them itself -- but now it's starting to just get silly:

Breaking with the George W. Bush White House, the Barack Obama administration on Friday dropped the term ''enemy combatant'' for suspected terrorists and said international law governed the detention of terrorism suspects at the Guantánamo Bay prison, which Obama intends to close.

Maybe we can now refer to them now as, what -- "undocumented freedom fighters" (as I read somewhere this morning)??

In a semi-related note, Shirley sends me word of a Texas school district that wants to ban the term "cheating." They want to call it "academic dishonesty." Which puts me "ahead of the curve," I suppose. I regularly joke, for instance, when I see kids looking at other students' papers, that they're engaging in "academic thievery." Who knew that I wasn't really joking?

Obama has changed the name because he is now requiring that charges be made against the detainees. That is a step forward, but Obama has a lot more to do to straighten out some illegal/inhuman Bush practices such as renditions and torture. We must get back to the Geneva Convention and the International Court.

I'm wondering when leftists will actually pay attention to the Geneva Convention and realize that these terrorists aren't actually covered by it? You might as well apply the law of Ceti Alpha V to these guys. It's got just as much to do with them as the Geneva Convention has.

I guess it's kind of like how they make false appeals to Constitution to justify their acts that shred it.

Cite a source for suggesting that Obama is now charging all detainees, please.

In fact, the Obama DOJ has gone to court to insure that it retains the power to detain people indefinitely without charges, both in the US and abroad at Bagram.

Steve, the detainees at Gitmo are now under the jurisdiction of the DoJ, no longer the DoD. I assumed that implied that the detainees would be formally charged. Research triggered by your comment has proven my assumption to be incorrect; thus, we have a jurisdiction change without a policy change, as in Bush!

Perry ... incorrect?? Unbelievable. Nice gratuitous Bush bashing in there, too, Perry. But that excuse is becoming less and less and tenable.

Well, then again, maybe not for you, Energizer Bunny ...
