CNN’s Jack Cafferty (who, in my opinion, rips both sides of the aisle fairly equally) wonders why that bastion of wisdom, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, didn’t allow a provision that required employers to use “E-verify” in order to check the [residence] status of their workers to remain in the recently passed stimulus bill. The “E-verify” language was included in the original House bill. The Senate, as noted, ditched it, and the final version of the bill sent to President Obama did not include it.
Why?
After all, “illegal aliens could take 300,000 new construction jobs — or 15 percent of the two million jobs to be created by U.S. taxpayer dollars.” In addition, Obama has “delayed until at least May a Bush era order that would require all federal contractors to use E-verify in hiring.”
Again, why?
Anybody who thinks the 15 percent number is accurate hasn't been near a jobsite in the last 5 years.
