The Altar

Cripes, even the University of Delaware's own newspaper isn't as ridiculously PC as the News Journal.

News Journal report about a UD student getting robbed:

The suspect is described as thin-built, between 18 and 21, about 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, with a short military-style haircut.

He was wearing a white T-shirt with a round red graphic in the center.

It is believed that he was in the company of another thin-built man with a shaved head and big ears.

UD's report:

The suspect is described as a white male 18 to 21 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds, with a thin build and a short, military-style haircut. He was wearing a white T-shirt with a round red graphic in the middle of the chest. The suspect was believed to be in the company of another white male, 18 to 21 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build, small shaved head and big ears.

Then there's this NJ report:

Wilmington police spokesman Master Sgt. Steven Barnes said about 12:26 p.m. the bandit struck the Wilmington Trust Bank at 1007 N. Market St.

He is described as 5-feet-7 wearing a brown jacket and brown knit hat ...

As opposed to WDEL.com's:

Police say it was just before 12:30 when a man walked into the Wilmington Trust branch in the 1000 block of North Market Street, and gave a teller a note saying he had a gun and demanding money.

The suspect, described as white, 5'7'' tall and wearing a brown jacket, took the cash and left the bank running down 10th Street.

Why does the News Journal even bother reporting crimes? I mean, if they have to cut back due to financial woes, why not just ditch these so-called "reports?" The public is much better served in this regard by just about every other local media outlet anyway!

"It is believed that he was in the company of another thin-built man with a shaved head and big ears."

This is totally insulting to people with big ears.

When will the discrimination end ????

Now I am looking at everyone's ears everywhere I go. Are the "big"? I don't know. Isn't that a judgment call?

People with big ears should be in an uproar over this account ! It's a travesty, I tell ya !
