Oh gee. Obama is upset:
In a speech to Israel's Knesset, Bush said: "Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along."
Obama thought those remarks were directed at him. I wonder why? After all, Obama has said he would meet "unconditionally" with leaders such as Iran's President Ahmadinejad. But in response to President Bush, Obama said
"George Bush knows that I have never supported engagement with terrorists, and the president's extraordinary politicization of foreign policy and the politics of fear do nothing to secure the American people or our stalwart ally Israel."
How could George Bush "know" that, Mr. Obama -- when you yourself said the precise opposite?? Not only did you say you would "engage" with folks like Ahmadinejad, you said you'd do so unconditionally!
Barry is splitting hairs. Almondinnerjacket may not personally be a terrorist but he sure as hell sponsors them. No difference to me. Democrats think diplomacy is an end not a means. Therein lies the problem.
Posted by: Duffy at May 16, 2008 07:55 AMI liked White House Spokesbabe Dana Perino's snarky response: "I understand when you're running for office you sometimes think the world revolves around you. That is not always true, and it is not true in this case."
Posted by: G Rex at May 16, 2008 10:47 AMPerhaps before Mr. Hitler Card stooped to belittling the Holocaust with yet another spurious analogy, he should have realized he was calling into question the judgment of his current and former Secretary of State and Sec. of Defense, among other well-respected Republicans.
Because regardless of whether the remarks were aimed at Obama (golly gee, I wonder), this wasn't criticism of "unconditional" talks. His comments ridiculed "negotiations," something his own advisers are open to under the right circumstances.
I've never understood this whole notion of avoiding "appeasement." It's schoolyard idiocy. It's an old, sad, tired, Vietnam-era notion. The type of mindset we can finally put behind us with this election. Macho bullcrap. We can blow these a-holes off the map if we have to. Listening to them is a low-risk proposition given the existence of any potential reward. To paraphrase Obama, you don't have to talk tough to be tough. Man up, GOP. Man up.
What would the 1980's have looked like if Ronald Reagan had refused to "engage" the so-called "Evil Empire?" And they -- unlike these nearly-impotent buffoons in the Mideast -- could actually have destroyed this great nation a thousand times over.

Precisely why Reagan did what he did. Why "engage" nearly-impotent buffoons who support terrorism for the purpose of spreading their sick religious ideology and for wiping out an entire people (Israeli Jews)? Of course, if Iran is permitted to make nukes, then the Holocaust will pale in comparison to what could happen, right?
