Obama: He wants to ban handguns

At the Pennsylvania debate last week, Barack Obama refused to answer as to what his view was on the upcoming decision on the Washington DC handgun ban Supreme Court case. But back in November, he said he thought the DC gun ban was constitutional:

Obama "...believes that we can recognize and respect the rights of law-abiding gun owners and the right of local communities to enact common sense laws to combat violence and save lives. Obama believes the D.C. handgun law is constitutional."

This past Saturday, Obama supporter PA Senator Bob Casey Jr. told CNN's Lou Dobbs

He (Obama) would probably be a supporter (of the DC gun ban) , as he has been in the U.S. Senate and the Illinois legislature, for various restrictions on gun ownership. I happen to disagree with him on that, we have our disagreements.

One telling thing about Obama's PA debate "answer" last week was this: He said "I have never favored an all-out ban on handguns." But ... that's precisely what the Washington DC ban is -- an all-out ban.

So ... which is it? It's one thing to agree that different localities can enact various restrictions on guns, but an all-out prohibition? And remember -- there was this little tidbit about that questionnaire Obama claims he never saw in which he supported "state legislation to 'ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.'”

If you're a believer in the 2nd Amendment, I wouldn't trust Obama any further than I could throw him.

C'mon, Hube...isn't this the same crap the GOP spewed about Clinton 15 years ago? "He's gonna take yer guns!"

I know it's all Obama all the time in the DE blogosphere (here, my site (thanks to the illustrious and mysterious Dominique!), and Jason's), but this is so ridiculous. Sure,it's his own words and sure he looks like an ass, but this will be about number 100 on his priority list (if it's a priority at all...I don't think he really gives a damn) on top of the rest of the screw-ups he'll be looking to reverse thanks to George Bush.

Mike: Can you find a reference by Bill Clinton similar to Obama's about guns? There is a clear difference between Bill and Barack -- Bill ran as a centrist. Barack is running as a leftist.

I know gun rights aren't important to you; however, there sure are plenty of folks who feel differently. So please don't act all high and mighty like Mascitti, kavips, Jason et. al. by telling us "what's important" to everyone. You sound just like Obama in San Francisco when you do that.

Also, this is just one more issue that Barack is back peddling from. He has given several different answers. He is trying to be all things to all people (like most politicians) but he is starting to get himself caught.

This is why no one on the left wants him to be asked tough questions. He is a great public speaker when it comes to giving prepared speeches. However, when he is grilled, even slightly, he quickly loses his “charisma” and command.
