After all, conservatives have been quite sympathetic and respectful over the disease -- to the point of letting her get away with comments that would have been attacked if made by a healthy spouse. Is she fair game now, since wishes of cancer and jokes about cancer seem fair game directed at Republicans/conservatives?

I'd never personally utter such words. No one deserves cancer. At the same time, it's easy to understand the frustration on the part of some, and the desire to match fire with fire, and not just roll over like liberals typically do.
