You know, this may only sound controversial, because it uses key words that in the past, had emotional connotations attached to their literal meanings. I ask first that all assume that there is no prejudiced attached to these remarks. I ask that a quick perusal of my comments and posts would prove that channeling the vast potential of our inner city children is a goal that is near and dear to me.
So hear me out here, with no emotion. It seems that the first step is to reinstate segregation. What??? Not on racial profiles, mind you, but on a willingness to learn. We separate those who want to learn from those who do not. Therefore classrooms become more orderly and learning is processed more rapidly. We can put the others to work in sweatshops to learn a trade. My bet is that doing so will promote more minorities into successful citizens than the current status quo of trying to educate everyone.........
Is this the silver bullet we have all been looking for? Questions? Concerns?
While I would drop the term "sweatshops". I can't help but notice that the kids in our district's vocational programs tend to do better in academic classes than non-AP students who aren't, and that they tend to do better once they graduate.
