Dopey WNJ Letter of the Week 2

Anita Lohinecz of Newark thinks that the recent [congressional] immigration reform bill failed because of "hate."

I watched CNN's Lou Dobbs square off with La Raza's Janet Murgia. Murgia attempted to make the point that immigration reform failed because there is a "wave of hate" against Latinos. She was right.

Want more secure borders? You "hate" Latinos. Want stricter control over illegal immigration? You "hate" Latinos. Don't want another blanket amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants? You "hate" Latinos.

Weird, then, that I pretty much want (or don't want) all of the above ... and I'm married to a Latina. Anita would claim that I hate my wife.

It's the "Dopey Letter of the Week." Scroll down for Anita's letter... the link is correct. (Her letter is from Sunday.) :-)

Really? (From personal knowledge I mean this sincerely) You are a lucky man.

In searching for the key to this large problem our nation faces, what are her ideas on how to fix it?I would really like to know how she feels and why, since she would provide a unique perspective?

No offense but there are some prejudiced persons who jump on this cause simply because it allows them to hate. Anyone who has been victim of their diatribes, would feel as (Anita) the writer of the letter felt. Of course that does not mean that all who seek some solution to illegal immigration are working on the principals of that basic impulse..........

Obviously there are indeed morons who are against immigration merely b/c they're racists. However, I suggest these cretins are a distinct, miniscule minority.

One of the more interesting things I find about this whole discussion is many of those who say "Well, they're [illegal immigrants] just looking for work ... we should just leave them alone ..." also are the most vociferous against the Bush admin. for supposedly pursuing "illegal" means to thwart terrorism. Maybe the retort to them should be "Well, Bush is just protecting us from terrorism ... we should just leave him alone"?
