Man, no wonder Ron Unz wanted to end bilingual education so badly:
Rudy Rios was stripped of his duties as junior varsity baseball coach at Chavez High School last week after using a district copying machine to make a flier encouraging Latino students to attend a rally protesting restrictions on illegal immigration.Rios, who still retains his duties as an English-as-a-second-language teacher, was copying and distributing a flier that read: "We gots 2 stay together and protest against the new law that wants 2 be passed against all immigrants. We gots 2 show the U.S. that they aint (expletive) with out us (sic)." (Link.)
1 (expletive) wunders how he gott hyred to teech Inglish.
(h/t: Taranto.)
Ha! I'm guessing that (sic) covers the entire sentence and not just the word "us"?? This is the funniest thing I've seen all day...and that's including PolitaKid's post eviscerating those in the DE blogosphere who've had a joke at the child-rapist/beast-of-a-woman's expense.
Posted by: Mike M. at April 6, 2006 05:12 PMI'm herein Houston, and i am still not clear on whether or not Rios actually wrote/created the poster, or whether he was copying the work of someone else to publicize the event.
I could see this as a student-made thing, or even a piece picked up elsewhere.
As we both know, that is how so many kids write in this day of IMs and Text messages.
Posted by: Rhymes With Right at April 6, 2006 06:39 PMI think I agree with Rhymes on the source of the flier, but I think Mr Rios did the kids a disservice, first by failing to correct the egregious grammar, and secondly by encouraging them to ditch school for the protest.
We gots 2 show these kids they ain't (expletive) without an education.
